On this week's Manuscript Monday Meredith recommends Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
I was chatting to someone in my book club (my other book club) about how some film adaptations of books totally miss the point. By changing the story to make it easier or more entertaining, sometimes the very essence of the story is lost. We were talking about a book Book Interrupted is reading this season—loved the book, annoyed by the limited series.
She asked if I'd read this book, one who’s adaptation got the same treatment.
Daisy Jones & The Six is about a fictitious band in the 60s and 70s. It’s written as an oral history compiled from individual interviews with the band members and those that surrounded them. It chronicles the rise, the fall, and rock and roll lifestyle of the members and their music. It’s about love, addiction, control, and letting go. I only wish I could hear the songs that make up so much of the book. The end was wrapped up neatly, but somehow still left me wanting more.
