On this week's Manuscript Monday Meredith recommends Foster by Claire Keegan.
This novella is narrated from the perspective of a child. I don’t think the audience ever finds out exactly how old the child is, but then again, it doesn’t matter. That detail is unnecessary for the telling of the story, and this one has no superfluous content. Every moment, every word, is essential to the story. Keegan respectfully and convincingly writes in the child’s voice. This book had me thinking about it long after I read it. It touched me. Keegan is a true artist.
