Manuscript Monday: Mother-Daughter Murder Night

Lindsay Schwietz

On this weeks Manuscript Monday Lindsay recommends "Mother-Daughter Murder Night" by Nina Simon

My mother-in-law gave me this book for Christmas and I asked her if she was trying to hint at something.

A New York Times Bestseller and Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club pick, Mother-Daughter Murder Night is about three generations of women in the same family helping solve a murder. The teenage granddaughter, Jack, discovers a body while kayaking in their sleepy costal town 300 miles north of L.A. that she lives in with her mom, Beth. Her grandmother, Lana, a real estate businesswoman, is begrudgingly staying with them while recovering from cancer. Lana, bored and trying to protect her granddaughter that is falsely under suspicion, decides to try and solve the murder.

“With Jack and Beth’s help, Lana uncovers a web of lies, family vendettas, and land disputes lurking beneath the surface of a community populated by folksy conservationists and wealthy ranchers. But as their amateur snooping advances into ever-more dangerous territory, the headstrong Rubicon women must learn to do the one thing they’ve always resisted: depend on each other.” (https://books.google.ca/books/about/Mother_Daughter_Murder_Night.html?id=4fafEAAAQBAJ&source=kp_book_description&redir_esc=y)

It’s an easy and quick read, with some fun, a bit of danger, and a nice story about mothers and daughters connecting even when they’re very different. Not life-changing, but an entertaining escape. And no, my mother-in-law wasn’t hinting at anything.
