On this weeks Manuscript Monday Virginia recommends The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese.
Despite this novel being over 700 pages and a work-out for your biceps, the story is so moving and beautiful, that as a reader it feels like this book isn’t long enough by the end. Over multi-generations the reader gets woven into life events, some beautiful and some deeply tragic as the author chronicles life in the early 1900’s for one family and the medical mystery that follows their family. On a side note to the main story, it is captivating reading and learning about the hardships of life in that era and the advances with medicine and technology to help everyday life.
If you liked stories such as The English Patient and The Alchemist, you will undoubtedly love this book!
